Gila Classic Golf Tournament
September 14 through 16, 2007

Where is it?
Gila Classic Golf Tournament
Silver City's 18-hole championship golf course is close to Historic Downtown, off Ridge Road. Take Highway 90 west from downtown less than one mile; turn left on Ridge Road and look for the golf course entrance!

The Annual Gila Regional Medical Center Gila Classic Benefit Golf Tournament, the GRMC Foundation’s main fund raising event of the year, is scheduled for September 8th, 9th and 10th at the Silver City Golf Course.
The Gila Classic amateur outing is a two-day four-person team event. The $125 per person entry fee provides each played with a great goody bag, Friday night Players' Party, breakfast Saturday and Sunday, two days of golf with a cart and great prizes.
This year’s field of 72 golfers will be filled with individuals, families and businesses from local communities and extended service area, forming teams that actively participate in the fun. In addition, local volunteer organizations will be assisting with the logistics and operations of the tournament (from cooking hot dogs to setting up the putting contest).
All of the Gila Classic events are for amateurs, and it’s about having fun with the entire family, and your friends, to raise money for Grant County's new Cancer Center. Teams are being formed for individuals who want to play.
A new competition: the "Gila Monster Drive Contest is Friday night and the winner will gain the title of "2006 Long Drive Champion for southwest New Mexico". The Friday night putting contest (hosted by the Rotary Club) is also open to the public of all ages, to determine the most skilled putter in the region. Saturday and Sunday the Gila Classic Tournament, a four-person scramble format, will take place.

There will be great prizes, (including a brand new car for a hole-in-one), wonderful food and plenty of good times for everyone.

Previous tournament proceeds have provided the Foundation with funds to assist the hospital in purchasing state-of-the-art equipment, completing capital projects and supporting scholarships for healthcare students. For the past year the majority of the Foundation’s resources have been targeted towards building the new Comprehensive Cancer Center, offering Radiation Treatment and expanded Chemotherapy facilities to meet the growing patient demand for local services.

The Gila Regional Medical Center Foundation was organized in late 1989 as a 501(c)(3) non-profit corporation. The purpose of the Foundation is to "concern itself with the procurement and extension of financial aid toward the operation, maintenance and modernization of facilities of Gila Regional Medical Center...to the end that the greatest amount of hospital and medical service may be extended to the greatest number of persons served by Gila Regional Medical Center."
The Foundation is a fund-raising entity, and 100 percent of donations to the Foundation are used to benefit the Gila Regional Medical Center health system's patients - none of the money is used for administration of the Foundation or medical center. This is accomplished with the help of Gila Regional, which provided personnel to do Foundation bookkeeping and other fund-management duties.
All Foundation spending decisions are made by the Foundation's 15 member board. Board members, who serve three year terms, are elected and represent a cross section of the community. Many have special knowledge in banking and finance, and lend their expertise to responsible management of the Foundation's funds. The Foundation bylaws dictate that the board will also include five non-voting members - the hospital administrator, a nursing staff representative, a medical staff representative, a member of Gila Regional's Board of Trustees, and a member of the hospital's auxiliary.
